If you’re a Harry Potter enthusiast visiting London, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour is an unmissable experience. Located in Leavesden, just northwest of London, this tour offers an immersive journey behind the scenes of the beloved film series. With everything from visiting the Great Hall and seeing the greenhouse to drinking Butterbeer, it’s a dream come true for fans of all ages.
I’ve been a Harry Potter fan since childhood, and having watched the films countless times, it was incredibly exciting to take a deep dive behind the scenes. The tour is full of fascinating props, costumes, and magical sets, and I loved every minute of it. However, if you’re not a huge fan of the series, the tour might feel long and less magical (which was true for some of my travel companions). If you’re in a group, make sure everyone is on board for this magical experience. For those who aren’t as enthusiastic about Harry Potter, save your money and enjoy some retail therapy in central London instead.
Booking Your Visit
Tickets for the Warner Bros. Studio Tour must be booked in advance. As of 2025, adult tickets start from £47. It’s advisable to purchase tickets directly from the official website to ensure availability for your preferred date. Given the tour’s popularity, especially during school holidays, booking well ahead of time is recommended. You can book directly from the official site: www.wbstudiotour.co.uk.
If you prefer not to drive, there are several third-party providers that offer packages including transportation from central London to the studio. These options simplify your visit by including bus transfers, so you don’t have to worry about navigating your way there.
Here are some third-party options:
- Golden Tours: Offers return transfer and ticket packages, with departures from London Victoria and Baker Street. The journey takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes each way. Prices start from £65 per person, which includes transportation and studio entry. You can book on their website: www.goldentours.com.
- Tourist England: Provides direct bus services to the studio, with pick-up points at London Victoria and Baker Street. The journey time is also around 1 hour 30 minutes each way. One-way tickets start from £25 per person. More details can be found here: www.touristengland.com.
- Gray Line: Offers packages that include return transportation and studio entry, departing from London Victoria. Prices start from £69 per person. More information is available here: www.grayline.com.
Planning Your Visit
When I visited, we booked tickets for the early timeslots ( less people) so we could take the bus out in the morning and still have time to explore the city and enjoy dinner in the evening. It’s recommended to allocate 3 to 4 hours for the tour to fully appreciate the exhibits, including iconic sets like Diagon Alley, the Forbidden Forest, and the Hogwarts Express. You also get a chance to try Butterbeer and visit the gift shop.
The timing is flexible; we opted for a self-guided tour, but there are options for guided tours if you prefer more in-depth commentary. Either way, the time they give you should be enough to enjoy the experience fully. If you’re planning to visit during peak seasons, be sure to book your tickets well in advance, as tickets sell out quickly. Tickets from third parties also get more expensive during the high seasons, we went in December which is a popular month to go.
What to Bring and Tips for Your Visit:
- Comfortable Footwear: You’ll be walking around a lot, so wear comfy shoes. The tour takes around 3-4 hours, and you’ll want to be able to enjoy the experience without sore feet.
- A Camera: The studio is full of amazing photo opportunities. Capture memories at iconic spots like Platform 9 ¾, the Great Hall, and the Hogwarts Express. There are many photo stations along the tour where you can take magical pictures, so don’t forget your camera or phone.
- Water Bottle: While there are plenty of food options available, it’s a good idea to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during the tour. You can refill it along the way.
- Weather-Appropriate Clothing: The tour is indoors, but you may have to wait outside when boarding the bus. Check the weather and bring a jacket or umbrella if needed.
- Money for Souvenirs: The gift shop at the end of the tour has tons of magical merchandise, from wands to clothing and exclusive items. If you want to bring a piece of the magic home, make sure to budget accordingly.
What Not to Do:
- Don’t Rush: You’re here to experience the magic! Don’t rush through the exhibits; take your time to really explore each section. There’s a lot to see, so enjoy the journey at your own pace.
- Avoid Peak Times Without a Booking: This might seem obvious, but the Warner Bros. Studio Tour can get extremely busy, especially during weekends and holidays. Booking your tickets early is essential, or you could end up missing out.
- Don’t Skip the Butterbeer: It’s one of the most iconic things to try while you’re there! Even if you don’t typically drink beer, the Butterbeer is non-alcoholic and a fun experience. It’s sweet and frothy, and you’ll feel just like you’re at the Three Broomsticks + you get to keep the glass.
Whether you’re a lifelong Harry Potter fan or just looking for a fun, magical experience in London, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour is a must-see. It offers an unforgettable behind-the-scenes look at how the movies were made and provides lasting memories of your time in London.
